GUSHEGU : NPP Respond To Malimali, Say the NDC PC Looking For Who to Blame for Impending Defeat
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Gushegu has condemned recent threats made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Yussif Malimali over ongoing exercise by the Electoral Commission to capture qualified voters in the electoral roll.
The Exercise which is in its second week has gone on peacefully without any recorded incident but Yussif Malimali, the opposition party’s PC, in a Video circulated on social media threatened potential voters, particularly those who plan to return to Gushegu to register or transfer their votes.
In the nearly six-minutes-long video, Malimali alleged of the NPP intention to bus outsiders to the constituency to partake in the registration exercise in an effort to skew election 2024 in their favour. He warned such people to cherish their souls and not travel to Gushegu for the purposes of registering or transferring their votes, saying that whoever sidestep his caution may pay the ultimate price.
In a response, the New Patriotic Party has firmly denied any intentions to rig the upcoming elections or to bring non-constituents to vote, assuring that all constituents, including those living outside Gushegu, have the right to register and transfer their votes, something Mr. Malimali, despite his threats, cannot prevent.
In a statement, the Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, condemned the opposition candidate, saying his comments were “reckless and have the potential to inflame the already heightened tension in the area.”
Mohammed Imoro(Oluu Kpatinga) asserted that Malimali’s comments reflect his lack of understanding of Gushegu’s political environment, labeling his remarks as one made out of fear of losing the upcoming election and an attempt to pre-emptively blame others for his potential failure.
In the video, Mr. Malimali also alleged that Hon. Hassan Tampuli, the incumbent MP, intends to bride the NDC agents in other that they will look elsewhere for the NPP to rig the polls, but the NPP communication officer dismissed the assertion, indicating that the incumbent MP has no interest in compromising NDC agents for any purpose. He expressed confidence in that against Mr. Malimali, the current lawmaker would win any fair election even if it is supervised by spouse of the former.
Mr. Imoro said instead of spreading war rhetorics, Hon. Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, the current MP, was focused on maintaining peace in collaboration with stakeholders, especially during the funeral rites of the late paramount chief, Gushe Naa Abdulai Shitobu, and the subsequent selection of a new chief.
The Communications Director draws a stark contrast between the contributions of Hon. Tampuli and Malimali to the Gushegu constituency and warned that the NDC Candidate, who has allegedly invested little in the community, poses a greater risk of disturbing the peace, hence the need for the people to give him less attention.
