Soldier Arrested in for Allegedly Supplying Weapons to Criminal Gangs

A Warrant Officer of the Fourth Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the Ashanti Region, WO II David Kofi Brew, has been arrested for allegedly supplying sophisticated weapons to criminal gangs operating in parts of the region.

The arrest followed an undercover operation by plain-clothed investigators who posed as potential buyers of the weapons, security sources have confirmed.

According to the sources, the suspect contacted the undercover operatives to inform them that the weapons were ready for collection at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station.

Brew was arrested at the location while allegedly attempting to hand over the weapons to the supposed buyers in exchange for GH¢80,000.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were intended for criminal activities in the Ashanti Region, particularly in and around Obuasi.

During interrogation, the Warrant Officer reportedly admitted to selling weapons to individuals within the Obuasi enclave and its surrounding communities.

Security agencies have since launched a manhunt for suspected accomplices believed to be part of criminal gangs terrorising residents in parts of the Ashanti Region.

Meanwhile, investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the Ghana Armed Forces is expected to cooperate fully with security agencies as the suspect faces further legal action.
