The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn baby at the One Heart Hospital in Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) received a complaint of baby theft on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that a woman disguised as a nurse entered the hospital’s labour ward and took away a newly born baby boy under the pretext of administering an injection.

The baby reportedly belongs to the complainant’s sister.

Following the complaint, police arrested two nurses, Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, who were on duty at the facility at the time of the incident.

A third suspect, Abukari Iddi, a security guard on duty at the hospital, was also arrested to assist with investigations.

The police say intelligence-led operations are currently underway to locate the missing baby and identify and arrest any other persons involved in the incident.

The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safe recovery of the baby and bringing all perpetrators to justice.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer.
