Musician Rap Way Arrested Over Alleged Drug Possession

Popular musician Rap Way, of BBH fame, has been arrested by a special operations team of the Ghana Police Service in Tamale for the alleged possession of illicit drugs.
The arrest was carried out during a special police operation at Bamvim, a suburb of Tamale, where officers retrieved a sack of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from the musician’s possession.
An interrogation video following the arrest has since been released and widely circulated on social media. In the video, Rap Way admitted involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs, saying he receives consignments from a supplier in the Volta Region and supplies to dealers in and around Tamale.
In the video, the musician told police investigators that he had stopped supplying the drugs due to the intensified police crackdown on narcotics in the metropolis and intended to burn the sack of suspected Indian hemp found in his possession.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service has not officially announced the charges to be preferred against the suspect or the next line of action. Investigations are, however, believed to be ongoing.
Rap Way’s arrest marks the third high-profile case involving figures in the entertainment industry in Tamale within weeks. Earlier, popular actor and comedian Abdul Basic Kulchire was arrested after police reportedly found 15 boxes of tramadol in his possession. In a similar development, a well-known movie producer, popularly called Abinchi, was also picked up by a local drug task force with several boxes of tramadol found in his custody.
The recent arrests form part of intensified efforts by security agencies to clamp down on drug abuse and trafficking in the Northern Region, particularly among influential public figures whose actions, authorities say, could negatively impact the youth.
