Prof. Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu Invested as Sixth UDS Vice Chancellor

Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu has officially been invested as the Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), succeeding Professor Seidu Alhassan, who served as Vice Chancellor since 2022.
The investiture ceremony, held on Thursday, brought together members of the academic community, Vice Chancellors of public and private universities, traditional leaders from Dagbon and Gonjaland, students, family members and other stakeholders of the University.
Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, a professor of mathematics, assumed the Vice Chancellorship after serving as Principal of the UDS Nyankpala Campus.
In his investiture speech, Professor Muniru described his appointment as a great honour but, more importantly, a call to duty.
He pledged to work towards strengthening academic excellence at UDS while improving the University’s visibility and image on the global academic stage.
He also identified infrastructure development as a key priority of his administration, with particular emphasis on efforts to ensure the establishment of a Teaching Hospital for the University.
Professor Muniru said his administration would work with relevant stakeholders to advance the University’s mandate and position UDS as a leading institution of higher learning.
Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak, assured the new Vice Chancellor of government’s support as he begins his tenure. However, he urged Professor Muniru not to lead the University alone, but to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are carried along in the decisions and initiatives of his administration.
According to Mr Apaak, UDS already enjoys an enviable reputation within the academic community, and the responsibility of the new Vice Chancellor is to sustain and further enhance that standing.
He therefore encouraged Professor Muniru to build consensus, work collaboratively with the University community and ensure that his administration strengthens the institution’s contribution to national development.
The investiture formally marks the beginning of Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu’s tenure as Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies.
