NLA Makes GH¢10m Dividend Payment to Government For the First Time in a Decade

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has resumed dividend payments to the government, presenting a GH¢10 million cheque to the Ministry of Finance as part of efforts to improve its contribution to the national purse.
The payment, presented by the NLA Board and Management led by Board Chairman Frederick Amissah and Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam, marks the Authority’s first dividend payment to government since 2017.
Director-General of the NLA, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, said the payment reflected the Authority’s renewed commitment to efficiency, transparency and revenue generation in support of national development.
Receiving the dividend, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson welcomed the payment but said the Authority must do more to generate revenue for the state.

He said the GH¢10 million should not be treated as merely symbolic, stressing that the taxpayer deserved greater returns from the NLA.
Dr Forson further disclosed that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the NLA and the Attorney-General, is reviewing agreements governing the Authority’s revenue arrangements.
He said the review, expected to be completed this month, would examine agreements which, in his assessment, have ceded an unreasonable share of NLA revenue to other entities.
The Minister also called on the NLA to remain focused on its statutory mandate and maximise the value it delivers to the state.
For the NLA, the dividend payment represents an early indication of its renewed revenue-generation drive.
Board Chairman Frederick Amissah described it as the beginning of reforms and improvements at the Authority, assuring government of stronger returns in the coming years.
NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam also said the payment reflected the Authority’s renewed commitment to efficiency, transparency and revenue generation in support of national development.
