Akufo-Addo and Bawumia Donate 200k To Gbewaa Palace Redevelopment Project
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, have made a joint donation of Ghc 200,000 to the Dagbang Development Fund to aid the redevelopment of the Gbewaa Palace, the seat of the King of Dagbang.
The intervention which was done today by the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, was in fulfillment of respective personal pledges to support the project made by the President and his Vice President to the chiefs and people of Dagbang.
The Regional Minister, during a short ceremony in Yendi to handover the funds to the committee overseeing the construction of the palace, said the president and his deputy were aware of the enormity of the palace redevelopment project and that their government will soon follow up with an bigger support package.
The Chief of Kuga, Naa Abdulai Adam, who doubles as chairman of the Dagbang Development Committee, on receiving the donation expressed gratitude to the president and his vice for their intervention.
He however called for more support, saying the palace redevelopment project was only a minute part of bigger development which can only be accomplished with more financial and kind interventions.
The Kuga Naa also used the opportunity to speak of recent security mishaps in the region and called on the Northern Regional minister to intensify efforts aimed at addressing them.
The Gbewaa Palace redevelopment initiative is part of a ten year Dagbang Development plan designed to accelerate development of the ancient Dagbang Kingdom by addressing shortfalls in the area of health, education, sanitation, peace and security.
The Gbewaa Palace project which is expected to cost in excess of 20 million Cedis and will affect about 115 nearby houses at the project site is at what overseers called the resettlement phase where houses are being built to resettle all residents to be affected by the project.
