The Northern Electricty Distribution Company Limited has served notice it will undertake an operation to clamp down on defaulters in a bid to enhance revenue mobilisation.

The exercise which is a continuation of the phase III of disconnections carried out in the third quarter of the year will target State-Owned enterprises, Ministries, Department and Agencies as well as MMDAs and members of the public who engages in illegal connection or reconnection.

Defaulting customers are therefore advised to reach out for settlement or risk disconnection and its consequences such as embarrassment and payment of reconnection fees or even prosecution.

In a statement signed by its Corporate Communications Manager, Maxwel K. Kotoka, the power distribution company sent a stern warning to supposedly influential people who will attempt to interfere in the exercise, saying special arrangements have been made with law enforcement and anyone who stand on their way will be arrested.

Meanwhile, due the disconnection exercise, NEDCo’s head and area offices will be closed to allow for the full engagement of staff in the revenue mobilisation drive. Customer service centers, zonal offices and third party vendors will however stay open to address issues of reconnections and faults.

It is the umpteenth time, the VRA outfit is undertaking this drive to reduce losses and maximise revenue. At the last outing, the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Some higher educational institutions and the Aliu Mahama Sport stadium were among defaulters.

The biggest Sport facility has since remained dark while special arrangements were made for payment before electricity was restored to the only teaching hospital in Northern Ghana.
