Youth Empowerment Summit 2024 Ends in Tamale with Call on Youth To Prioritise Skills Development
The 2024 Youth Empowerment Summit has concluded in Tamale with a strong call on young people to prioritise skills development and personal growth.
Various Speakers who made the call indicated that discovering one’s talents and investing in refining those abilities were crucial steps toward achieving success.
The speakers therefore encouraged the youth to focus on continuous learning and self-improvement as key strategies for thriving in today’s competitive environment.
The summit, held under the auspices of Tamale-based Youth-centered NGO, Martha Inspires Foundation with MTN Ghana as lead sponsor, attracted participants from Civil Society Organizations, Non-governmental organizations, youth groups, students drawn from second cycle institutions, and young business leaders.
The event, which marked its 9th edition this year, was under the theme: “Inspire Inclusion to Support Youth Participation.”
Georgina Fiagbenu Asare, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, highlighted the importance of networking, stressing that beyond identifying talents, young people must connect with the right people.
“Building relationships is key; no network can be strong if the relationship is weak,” she stated, urging participants to focus on creating solid connections that open doors to opportunities.
Ruth Baddo, also from MTN Ghana, advised the youth not to be discouraged by the obstacles they encounter while pursuing success. She noted that overcoming challenges builds resilience and equips individuals to manage themselves better when they achieve success.
Chief Executive Officer of Buabeng Groupe, Jeremiah Buabeng, underscored the importance of acquiring relevant skills. He said that skills development is crucial for both personal growth and long-term success.
Buabeng encouraged young people to prioritize knowledge acquisition, explaining that knowledge not only enhances skills but also increases one’s bargaining power, both of which are essential for a stable and fulfilling life.
A youth activist and student from the University for Development Studies (UDS), Marvin Selassie Ackuayi, advocated for the inclusion of young people in decision-making processes, emphasizing that the youth have valuable insights and ideas to contribute toward national development.
With over 2,500 attendees brought together, YES 2024 served as a platform for youth engagement, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, with a unified call for greater inclusion of young people in decision-making processes and the need for youth to actively pursue self-development and networking opportunities.
