Karaga MP Hands Over 12-Unit Classroom Block to Alma Mater Nobisco

Mohammed Amin Adam, Member of Parliament for Karaga and Ghana’s immediate past Finance Minister, has handed over a newly constructed one-storey 12-unit classroom block to his Alma mater, the Northern Business Secondary School.

The commissioning ceremony, held earlier today, drew school authorities, students, education officials and past students, who gathered to witness the handing over of an infrastructure expected to boost the delivery of accessible and quality education.

The construction of the facility followed an appeal made by the school’s headmaster during a courtesy visit in November 2024 when Dr. Amin Adam served as Finance Minister.

During that visit, the headmaster highlighted the school’s inadequate classroom infrastructure and appealed for support, noting that the shortage of classrooms was negatively affecting teaching and learning activities.

According to the Karaga MP who entered the school in 1987, the project forms part of his commitment to giving back to society and supporting quality and accessible education in the Northern Region.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amin Adam commended the school authorities and teaching staff for their dedication to nurturing students and urged them to remain committed to their duties.

In a motivational, the Karaga MP recounted his personal struggles and journey to success. He disclosed that he initially failed his entrance examinations and gained admission to the school through sporting merit. He also narrated how he unsuccessfully contested parliamentary elections on three occasions before eventually entering Parliament.

The former Finance Minister further reflected on his political career, explaining that although he once served as a deputy minister, persistence and hard work eventually earned him a cabinet appointment.

He encouraged students not to give up on their ambitions despite setbacks.

“Never relent in pursuing your dreams. With hard work, determination, resilience and humility, success is possible,” he advised.

Dr. Amin Adam also pledged his continuous support to the school and announced that his organization, the Anta Nextgen Foundation, would soon visit the school to provide mentorship and career guidance for students.

Headmaster of the school, Alhassan Issah Dokurugu, expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the gesture as a major step toward eliminating the school’s double-track system.

He explained that the school currently operates as a transition school, meaning only two out of the three year groups are on campus at a time due to inadequate infrastructure.

According to him, the school has a student population of 4,895 and requires at least 75 classrooms to fully accommodate all students.

Before the new project, the school had only 36 classrooms.

“With the addition of these 12 classrooms, we now have 48 classrooms, bringing us closer to achieving our target,” he stated.

The headmaster added that the intervention would not only improve teaching and learning but also inspire other individuals and organizations to support educational development.

A representative of the Northern Regional Education Directorate also commended the initiative and called on the school community to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to preserve the facility for future generations.

Abdulai S. Andani assured the school of the directorate’s continued support to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The newly commissioned classroom block is among several educational interventions personally funded by Dr. Amin Adam across the Northern Region.

Similar projects have been undertaken at Tamale Secondary School and Ambarriyya Islamic Institute.

Just three weeks ago, another one-storey six-unit classroom block funded by the former Finance Minister was commissioned at Almarkaziya Islamic Primary School in Zogbeli, a suburb of Tamale.
