Discipline Won It for Us – UDS Captain on World Championship Triumph

Captain of the newly-crowned World University Football Champions, Mohammed Asigre, has attributed his team’s historic victory at the 2025 FISU World University Football Championship to discipline and strict adherence to the instructions of their coach, Ibrahim Shaibu Tanko.
Speaking at a durbar held at UDS’ main campus to welcome the team back from China, Asigre praised the technical team for instilling discipline, focus, and teamwork throughout the tournament.

“The tournament was tough, but discipline won it for us,” Asigre said.
“Coach Tanko always reminded us that to achieve what you have never achieved, you must do what you have never done. We lived by that message, and it guided us to victory.”

The homecoming event was graced by dignitaries from academia, sports, and the alumni association.
The Northern Regional Football Association Chairman, Abu Hassan Rhyzo, donated GH₵5,000, while the UDS Alumni Association presented GH₵20,000 to the team in recognition of their outstanding performance.

The players and technical team formally presented the championship trophy to the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Seidu Alhassan, who commended them for making history as world champions.
He pledged the university’s continuous support to ensure adequate preparation for the team to defend the title in 2027.
