UDS World Cup Winning Team Call on Yaa Naa

The University for Development Studies (UDS) football team, winners of the 2025 FISU World University Football Championship, has paid a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The delegation, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Alhassan, included members of the university management, the technical team, and the playing body who made history by winning the world university football tournament in Dalian, China.
Welcoming the team, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II commended them for their remarkable achievement, describing their victory as one that has brought pride not only to Dagbon, but to Ghana and the entire African continent.
“You have achieved what many thought was impossible,” the King said.
“Your victory shows that with discipline and determination, greatness is attainable. You are true ambassadors of Dagbon, Ghana, and Africa. This achievement will inspire generations to come to know that their ancestors once conquered the world.”
The Yaa Naa also highlighted the importance of investing in education and sports, saying the team’s success demonstrates that such investments yield “unimaginable dividends.”
In his remarks, Prof. Seidu Alhassan expressed gratitude to the King for his continuous support and blessings before, during, and after the tournament.
He, however, appealed to the overlord to use his influence to rally political leaders, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to support the university’s sports department, which he said still lacks adequate infrastructure despite the global triumph.
As a sign of honor and appreciation, the Yaa Naa adorned each member of the delegation with a traditional smock and presented the team with an undisclosed sum of money.
The team, in turn, symbolically presented the championship trophy to the King in appreciation of his guidance and blessings.
