Dr. Amin Adam Calls for Review of Karaga Curfew Hours

The Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency has appealed to the Minister for the Interior to review the curfew hours imposed on Karaga township following recent chieftaincy disturbances.

The Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, acting on intelligence, imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the Karaga township with the aim of curtailing any potential unrest after National Security had moved in the afternoon of yesterday to stop an installation of a Chief warrior by a rival chieftaincy faction.

In a statement, Dr. Amin Adam, commended the Interior Minister for his swift and proactive intervention, which he said has helped restore calm in the area. He acknowledged that the government’s actions have been instrumental in maintaining peace after the unrest.

However, the MP expressed concern over the impact of the curfew on residents, particularly traders who depend on night-time economic activities for their livelihoods. According to him, the current restrictions are adversely affecting law-abiding citizens and worsening economic hardship in the community.

Dr. Amin Adam therefore urged the Interior Minister to consider reviewing or possibly lifting the curfew after a careful assessment of the security situation. He noted that easing the restrictions would help reduce the burden on residents while sustaining the peace achieved.

He further expressed confidence in the existing security presence in Karaga, stating that it would be sufficient to deter any individuals seeking to disrupt public order.

The MP also called on residents to remain peaceful and avoid actions that could reignite tensions, encouraging them instead to focus on productive activities that would improve livelihoods in the area.

The curfew was imposed following chieftaincy-related disturbances in Karaga, and authorities have maintained that it is necessary to ensure stability and protect lives and property.
