Tikumah Family Donates 150-Bed Girls’ Hostel to Nuriya Senior High School

The Chief Executive Officer of Tiksham Investments, Alhaji Abdul Halim Tikumah, together with his siblings, has commissioned a newly constructed 150-bed capacity hostel facility for the Nuriya Senior High School in Tamale.

The facility, which will serve as a girls’ dormitory, was built in memory of the late father of the CEO, Alhaji Haruna Gurundoo, a pioneer and former teacher at the Nuriya Islamic Institute, who passed away in November last year.

Speaking at a short ceremony to hand over the facility, a family representative, Sheikh Yussif Nabhani, described the gesture as a perpetual charity (sadaqah jariyah), explaining that all benefits derived from the use of the facility will serve as continuous blessings for the late patriarch in the afterlife.

The intervention comes at a time when the school is grappling with a severe accommodation deficit, forcing management to rent nearby private properties to house students. The new structure, which includes washrooms and changing rooms, is expected to accommodate more than 150 female students.

The Headmaster of Nuriya Senior High School, Mr. Adam Ibrahim Gunu, expressed profound gratitude to the Tikumah family, describing the support as timely and transformative.

“This gesture will go a long way to relieve us of the heavy accommodation burden we face. It will also improve teaching and learning as students now have a safe and decent place to rest,” he said.

Mr. Gunu further pledged to institute a robust maintenance plan to ensure the longevity of the facility, while appealing to government, individuals, and corporate bodies to emulate the benevolence of Tiksham Investments.

Representing the Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Sayibu Mahamud Sulemana commended the Tikumah family for their contribution to education. He also cautioned students against the use of hard drugs and firearms, urging them to remain focused on their studies to secure a better future.

Established in 2018 as a private school and absorbed by the government two years later, Nuriya Senior High School currently has an enrollment of 797 students offering General Arts, General Science, and Home Economics programmes.
