UDS Introduces MPhil and MA in Journalism Studies

The University for Development Studies (UDS) will, from September this year, begin two postgraduate programmes in Journalism Studies, a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and a Master of Arts (MA).
The two programmes will be available at the Nyankpala Campus under the auspices of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dr. Mahama Seth Shaibu, disclosed that admission forms for the programmes are now available online and invited qualified applicants to apply.
According to Dr. Shaibu, the MPhil in Journalism Studies will run for two years, while the MA programme will be completed within one year.
He explained that persons with First Class, Second Class Upper, or Second Class Lower honours in Journalism Studies are eligible to apply. Prospective candidates with Third Class honours may also be considered, provided they have at least ten years of working experience as journalists and successfully pass an admission interview.
Dr. Shaibu noted that the programmes will offer a blend of journalism and communication-related courses, alongside selected humanities subjects such as political science, aimed at broadening students’ academic and professional perspectives.
He encouraged media practitioners across the country who meet the admission requirements to take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade their academic qualifications and enhance their professional competence.
