Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II died on Sunday, July 12

The King of Dagbang, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, has died after months of protracted illness. The King was reportedly receiving treatment in South Africa.

He has since been buried in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Dagbang Kingdom. A regent, Kampakuya Naa, Abukari Yakubu, first son of the late King, has been installed.

Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari ascended the Dagbang from the Savelugu gate skin in 2019 after a long protracted chieftaincy impasse which started in 2002 was resolved.

His seven-year reign was generally peaceful and ushered in a period of development and progress for the Kingdom.

Former Vice President and Opposition Leader, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, paid tribute to the fallen Monarch, saying even though the Yaa Naa Abukari’s rule was short, it was impactful.
