One Killed, Six Injured as Sagnarigu MUSEC Imposes Curfew on Damankungyili and Nyeshie

The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed a curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie and adjoining communities following violent disturbances that left one person dead and six others injured.

The decision was announced in a press statement issued after an emergency meeting of the Council on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. The statement said the meeting was convened following clashes between the two communities which resulted in the casualty and injuries.

MUSEC condemned the violence in the strongest terms, describing the loss of life and injuries as unfortunate. The Council expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

To restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation of the conflict, the Council, in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the affected communities. The curfew took effect from Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.

The Council also announced a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected areas. It further disclosed that joint police patrols have been intensified to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew and maintain law and order.
MUSEC urged all media houses, particularly radio stations, to exercise restraint in their reportage and avoid inflammatory commentary that could aggravate the situation.

The Council also appealed to chiefs, elders, youth and residents of Damankungyili and Nyeshie to remain calm and cooperate fully with the security agencies. It further called on anyone with credible information about the disturbances to volunteer it to the Police to aid investigations.

The statement concluded by reminding residents that they are one people and that violence only undermines the development of the municipality. It assured the public that the Council would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when necessary.
