North Gonja Police Get Vehicles In Anti-Crime Boost
The North Gonja District Police Command on Tuesday, May 23, received two Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles and 20 motorcycles as additional fleet to aid the fight against crime.
The vehicles, handed over to the Police by District Chief Executive, Adam Eliasu Red Bawa, will be distributed evenly to the Daboya and Mankarigu police units.
At a short ceremony in Daboya to handover the vehicles, Hon. Adam Eliasu whiles underscoring the importance of retooling the police said the vehicles will place the District Police Command in position to quickly respond and quell public disorder.
The DCE, also chairman of District Security Committee, conveyed the heartwarming appreciation of the chief of the North Gonja to the Police hierachy for their effort at ensuring peace, stability and safety of the people in the area.
Adam Eliasu, who a fortnight ago graced a ceremony to welcome scores of newly posted police recruits to the district, assured the police command of continuous support and also appealed to them to never relent in their efforts in maintaining law and order.
District Police Commander, Chief Inspector Prince Boakye expressed delight at the retooling intervention, assuring the vehicles were going to used and maintained often to ensure they last longer.
He requested for further support to defray the operational and administrative costs incurred by the service for the additional units as they await for permanent welfare arrangements.
The North Gonja District is among 16 districts across the identified as terrorism hotspot and the Police Service have deployed more men to the area in the last months.
A reorganised special unit known as Formed Police Unit have deployed to serve as backup divisions in Daboya and the Mankarigu zones to support the work of other operational units within the Service.
Formerly called the Armoured Car Squadron (ACS), the FPU unit will engage in activities such as hostage rescue, counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency, criminal intelligence gathering, house and vehicle search and barricade reconnaissance and removal.
