NEDCo Denies Bribing Assembly Members To Lead Meter Installation Exercise
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company has denied allegations of bribing Assembly members and opinion leaders to lead the deployment of meters in the various communities.
Many residents especially in the Tamale Metropolis have accused their Assembly Members of shortchanging them to allow for NEDCo to deploy their Longi meters whose performance and efficiency has been questioned.
But in a statement signed by Maxwel K. Kotoka, Manager of Corporate Communications, the power distribution company absolved itself and the Assembly members of any Unscrupulous act, saying the bribery allegation against the local government representatives is nothing but spurious, unfounded and wicked.
The company explained that Assembly members who represent their communities have been taken as liaison officers on whose back NEDCo rides to undertake communal engagements and other operational mandates.
The company added that it does not need to bribe anyone to carry out legitimate mandates such as upgrading of lines and injection of transformers, it does not also need to bribe anyone to pave the way for the deployment of meters.
The company has therefore urged the public to desist from throwing up falsehood against the company, stating that henceforth, “we would not hesitate to hold anyone who makes any of these spurious allegations concerning NEDCo to strict proof.
