Joint Dagomba and Konkomba Peace Committee Presented to Saboba Chief
An interethnic peace committee made up of the Dagombas and Konkombas with the mandate to promote harmony and peaceful coexistence was on Thursday[December 28] presented to the Paramount Chief of Saboba and his elders at his Palace in Saboba.
The committee made of eleven members each from Dagombas and Konkombas; comprises of chiefs, religious leaders and youth representatives was led by Alhaji Abdul-Majeed Mohammed on behalf of the Director of the Yendi Peace Centre Rev Father Mackeal Korb.
The Committee which was inuagrated in November this year has a task to see to the consolidation of peace between the Dagombas, Konkombas and other tribes within the Eastern Corridor enclave.
The committee will act liaison officers and also the formulators of peace promotional activities between ethnic groups within the entire Eastern Corridor.
The Paramount chief of Saboba traditional area,Uchabobor Bowan John Mateer Sokojim IV was happy to receive the committee at his palace and in a statement stated that,the ethnic groups are one and are made to live together.
The chief mentioned that, it is the will of God that Dagombas and Konkombas are settled at one place, hence the need for harmony and peaceful coexistence.
He encouraged the Committee to ensure that all efforts are put together to ensure Dagombas and Konkombas coexist peacefully. He also appealed to the traditional rulers to see to the underlining factors threatening the peace of the area are resolved.
The Chief thanked the Bishop of Yendi and the Yendi Peace Centre for their foresight in establishing the peace committee. He pledged his palace’s readiness to work with the committe for the establishment and promotion of peace.
