Woman beater Vice Chairman of NDC Released on Bail, Supporters Lock Up Regional Office
The Northern Regional Vice Chairman of opposition NDC has been granted bail after he was arraigned before court for his alleged assault of party regional treasurer, Hajia Shamima.
Alhassan Abdul Hamid, known popularly as Chairman Gbewaa, is thought to have pounced on his fellow executive following a disagreement at a meeting held over the weekend to discuss campaign strategies for election 2024.
Photographs that have emerged on Social media show the treasurer with blood all over her face, an indication that she suffered facial injuries from the attack.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the Chairman turning himself in to the police on Monday.
He was detained to assist in investigations but his supporters today went haywire and went to lock up the regional secretariat before beseeching the Tamale Central Police station to demand the release of the embattled Vice Chairman.
the supporters addressed an impromptu media conference to send a warning to the party hierarchy that Mr. Gbewaa remains untouchable and that they will make the party ungovernable should anything happen to him
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress has condemned the assault on the regional treasurer by her fellow executive. In a statement, General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the action of the Chairman is a departure from the principles of the party which holds true, the dignity and respect for women.
He said the party shall decide the fate of Mr. Gbewaa at its next Functional Executive Meeting.
