GEM-GHANA Launches “Break The Chains” Initiative to Combat Drugs Abuse Menace

GEM-GHANA Launches Drugs Abuse Campaign

NGO, Girls Empowerment Mission (GEM-GHANA), has launched its new drug abuse awareness campaign, titled “Break The Chains; Together For A Drug-free Life,” a move aimed at addressing the escalating issue of drug abuse among Ghanaian youth, particularly in the Northern Region.

The campaign, which was unveiled in Tamale, seeks to combat the growing menace of substance abuse while inspiring hope for a brighter future. With the impactful tagline, “Building Dreams, Breaking Chains,” the initiative will raise awareness, educate, and advocate for a drug-free lifestyle across Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Madam Hawa Benedicta Yakubu, the Executive Director of GEM-GHANA, emphasized the critical need to address drug abuse, which she described as a growing threat to the potential and dreams of Ghana’s younger generation.

“GEM-GHANA’s campaign comes at a crucial time when drug abuse is increasingly threatening the future of Ghana’s youth,” Madam Yakubu stated. She further highlighted the destructive impact of substance abuse on individuals and families, noting how it derails lives and stifles opportunities.

She reiterated GEM-GHANA’s commitment to taking on this challenge head-on, with the aim of restoring hope and rebuilding lives through this initiative.

The campaign’s launch in Tamale is only the first step in GEM-GHANA’s broader vision. The organization plans to extend the initiative to all 16 regions of Ghana, ensuring that every part of the country benefits from the program.

To this end, the NGO is appealing for support from donors, corporate bodies, government agencies, and community leaders. Madam Yakubu passionately called on these stakeholders to join the cause, stressing that their involvement is essential to building dreams and breaking the chains of addiction that hold back many young lives.

GEM-GHANA’s Programs Manager, Mr. Abdul Rafiu Fuseini, reiterated this sentiment, stating, “With the support of all stakeholders, this initiative can become a nationwide movement, transforming the future of Ghana’s youth.”
