Police Arrest Student Who Stabbed Colleague at O’Reilly SHS
The police have arrested a final-year student from O’Reilly Senior High School (SHS) who allegedly stabbed his colleague to death. The Greater Accra Regional Director of the GES, Stephen Abamfo revealed when he led a team together with the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly to meet the management of O’Reilly Senior High School
According to the reports, Edward Borketey Sackey, a final-year General Arts student, lost his life after being stabbed three times in the chest by Godwin, a fellow final-year student studying Visual Arts on Monday. The altercation, which reportedly stemmed from a minor dispute, escalated into violence, leaving the 18-year-old victim dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred shortly after Sackey had completed a paper. A cousin of the deceased, who witnessed the events, described the altercation as a “simple fight” that spiraled out of control.
“He had a paper in the morning and came to me that he was done with is paper…A few minutes later, we heard some noise at the back and we asked what was wrong and they said it was Godwin and Edward fighting. I asked what’s the fight about and they said it was nothing serious.
“A few minutes later, the Godwin guy came up to me and asked me to warn my brother or else his blood will flow and I told him it has not gotten to that,” she narrated.
“When the chaos started my brother ran to the teachers who were sitting under the tree in the school compound…I was calling the guy to stop but they didn’t mind me so I decided to go to my uncle who has a shop outside the school to report to him what was happening since the teachers are not doing anything.
“The guy is not someone he will joke it when he is coming to school he has this small bag which contains a lot of harmful substances like knives,” she said.
The incident has sent shock waves through the school community, raising concerns about safety and security on school premises.
Meanwhile Mr. Abamfo has assured safety of students and staff as investigations commence into the matter.
He further disclosed that, “We are actually on the investigation. The case is in the hands of the police. I have also gathered some information, and I need to actually brief my Director-General of what has actually transpired. Then afterwards, we’ll make the public actually know the facts of the matter. The student who stabbed the colleague is in the hands of the police. The deceased is also at the morgue. Now, all that I can say is that the right information will be disseminated to you in due course.”
