Tamale Offline Undertake Blood Donation Drive to Restock National Blood Bank
Tamale Offline Hangout, a youth-centered community promoting networking and volunteerism, successfully organized a blood donation exercise over the weekend aimed at restocking the National Blood Bank.
The event, held in partnership with over a dozen youth-focused NGOs, the National Blood Bank, and Zipline Ghana, was part of activities to commemorate National Volunteerism Day.
The initiative saw participation from members of Tamale Offline Hangout and other young volunteers from the region. In addition to donating blood, participants were screened for various medical conditions, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, and hepatitis B.
Speaking at the event, Prince Barak, founder of Tamale Offline Hangout, emphasized the importance of volunteerism as an essential act to national development.
“Volunteering is a selfless action that we need to grow as a country. Our goal as a network is to promote volunteerism, and this partnership for the blood donation exercise is a clear demonstration of that commitment,” he said.
Barak also expressed his gratitude to the members of Tamale Offline for their overwhelming support, noting that the turnout exceeded expectations.
Adam Yidana Abass, Community Integration Lead at Zipline Ghana, lauded the group’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of the blood donation initiative. He noted that the National Blood Bank was nearing depletion and that the donations collected during the exercise would go a long way in saving lives.
Beyond blood donations, participants engaged in fun activities and received essential emergency medical training, including lessons on how to administer CPR in critical situations.
