TTH to get Ultramodern Oncology and Radiotherapy Center

Government of Ghana has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), with the Jospong Group of Companies serving as the contractor for the project.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Management of TTH and officials of Jospong Group, acting on behalf of Government to assess and initiate preparatory processes for the project.

Following the meeting, both teams conducted a joint inspection of the proposed site earmarked for the construction within the hospital premises.

The new Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre, regarded as one of the three key pillars of comprehensive cancer management, will be the first facility of its kind in northern Ghana.

It is expected to significantly reduce the burden on patients who currently travel long distances to access radiotherapy services in other parts of the country.

The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakari Bawah Abdulai expressed profound appreciation to the Government for approving the project.

He noted that the establishment of the centre would save many lives and greatly improve access to specialized cancer treatment in the northern sector.

“This facility will be a major milestone for healthcare delivery in northern Ghana. As one of the critical components of cancer management, it will bring much-needed relief to patients and their families,” he stated.

As part of the visit, the Jospong delegation also inspected the hospital’s waste treatment facilities and engaged Management on possible areas of improvement.

Dr. Bawah indicated that although the hospital’s sewage treatment plant is currently operational, it functions manually and requires modernization.

The CEO welcomed Jospong Group’s commitment to upgrade the waste management system to a more advanced, facility.

He described the intervention as timely and essential for maintaining high standards of environmental health and safety.

The delegation further interacted with staff and patients at the Nelly Oncology Centre, reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
