Yendi MP’s Brother Declares Support to Opponent In Upcoming Primaries

If you think the last parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party that brought in Farouk Aliu Mahama as Parliamentary candidate and subsequently as MP for Yendi was competitive, you may have to rethink or at least, wait until next year’s primaries.
The polls may be months away but coming events as they say cast their shadows and truly, events in Yendi show the upcoming primaries will be fiercely contested as the main protagonists, current MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama and CEO of MASLOC, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, in the last primaries are at each other again, maneuvering and outdoing each other in their bid to win the trust of party king makers.
Hajia Abibata’s efforts appear to have already done more than enough to win not just the souls of delegates but even family members of Farouk Aliu Mahama, the incumbent MP and political nemesis.
Mohammed Mubarik, a brother and influential member of Farouk’s campaign has switched camps, throwing his support behind the MASLOC boss, who readies herself to contest again and is optimistic she will be second time lucky after narrowly losing out to the current lawmaker in the last party primaries.
Mubarik in a post that has now gone viral on social media described Hajia Abibata as light and reputable, saying she is the only candidate who can take Yendi to the next level.
“Indeed, the most honourable, reputable, vigilant and humble light that will take Yendi Constituency to the next level is no other person else but, HAJIA ABIBATA SANI MAHAMA,” the MP’s brother wrote.

It is unclear what could have made Mubarik Mohammed switch camps but sources say a chunk of the Farouk’s campaign team have grown dissatisfied over his unwillingness to listen to anyone or honour pledges he made to the electorates and may follow his brother in what could become a mass exodus.
Mohammed Mubarik, for now, has been accepted warmly into Hajia Abibata’s camp, but as to whether he will be assigned any role in her campaign, only time will tell.
