NDC Premeditated Plot to Disgrace President Akufo Addo at Gonjaland Youth Event Didn’t Succeed – NPP

In an attempt to disgrace President Akuffo Addo at this year’s Gonjaland Youth Congress in Damongo, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were rather disgraced as their premeditated plot suffered a setback, that is according to Mohammed Issah, Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The annual congress which brings together youth from across Gonjaland was organised and themed with the celebration of the first anniversary on the throne of the King of Gonjaland, Jira Yagbonwura Bii Kunatu Soale Jewu I.
President Akufo Addo attended the event and later left to attend to other matters of chiefly importance but not before he sought permission to interrupt and deliver his speech at the event which was also graced by the NDC Presidential Candidate, Former President John Dramani Mahama. Discussions after the event portrayed the President as disrespectful as he is alleged to have duly paid requisite courtesies due to the King’s refusal to rise from his seat to welcome him.
At a Press Conference held yesterday, Mr. Mohammed Issah, addressed journalists on what he termed as “numerous deliberate distortions, petty propaganda, and malicious narratives” orchestrated by the NDC and its affiliates. Issah emphasized President Akufo Addo’s respect for the Gonja Kingdom and its people, highlighting his numerous visits to the Jakpa Palace, the establishment of the Savannah Region and achievements such as infrastructure development and healthcare initiatives as evidence of the President’s commitment to the progress of Gonjaland.
According to the Secretary, the opposition NDC had allegedly laid a solid groundwork from the funeral of the late Burgu-wurche in Busunu, escalating to threats of making the 2024 GLYA congress ungovernable. The NDC purportedly aimed to prevent President Akufo Addo’s invitation to the event and criticized the Yagbonwura for extending the invitation to him.
Mr Issah also accused the opposition party of attempting to take the shine from the Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, for his renovation of the Jakpa Palace as they hurriedly arranged President Mahama to cut sod for the construction of a new palace for the Gonja people.
The GLYA, in collaboration with certain NDC executives, allegedly attempted to sideline President Akufo Addo during the event, with the GLYA chairman reportedly delivering a speech without acknowledging the President’s presence. Furthermore, accusations were made against the GLYA for purportedly failing to recognize the contributions of both President Akufo Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the development of Gonjaland.
Mr. Issah said the attempt by the NDC and its surrogates within the setup of the Gonjaland Youth Association to discredit the NPP and the President were unfortunate. The Secretary reiterated the support of his party to the President and urged the people of the Savanna Region to prioritise development over petty partisan politics.
