MTN Ghana Invests 106 Million Cedis in 166 Projects As Part of Corporate Social Responsibility
MTN Ghana has committed 106 million cedis to 166 corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in 2024, as part of efforts to enhance education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community support across the country. The breakdown of the investment includes 90 projects in education, 55 in healthcare, 15 in economic empowerment, and 6 focused on community support initiatives.
This information was disclosed by Nii Adotey Mingle, the General Manager for MTN’s Northern Sector, during the 2024 MTN Editors’ Forum in Tamale. According to Mr. Mingle, these projects have positively impacted 4.5 million Ghanaians, significantly improving access to quality healthcare and education, while also helping to alleviate poverty.
As part of its ongoing commitment to connectivity, MTN Ghana also extended its fiber optic network by 478 kilometers across Northern Ghana. This infrastructure expansion aims to enhance internet connectivity and improve service delivery in the region.
The MTN Editors’ Forum, an annual event that gathers journalists from across Northern Ghana, provides a platform for the telecommunications giant to share its performance updates and engage stakeholders for feedback. The 2024 forum was held under the theme: “Delivering Digital Solutions for Ghana’s Progress through Partnership with Civil Society Organizations.”
Addressing the forum, Mr. Mingle emphasized the importance of civil society partnerships in enhancing the communication sector. He reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to collaborating with these organizations to further improve service delivery for its customers. He also acknowledged the media’s critical role in educating and enlightening the public, encouraging journalists to continue providing constructive feedback to help MTN enhance its services.
The General Manager also outlined his company’s plans to invest in technology-driven initiatives, including IT skills training for young people, mentoring programs for businesses, and the introduction of entry-level smartphones to promote digital inclusion. These efforts are geared towards preparing Ghanaians for an increasingly digital world.
The Northern Regional Director of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr. Iddrisu Abukari Alooma, commended MTN for its efforts in fostering accountability through the Editors’ Forum. He indicated the NCA’s commitment to supporting telecom companies in advancing technology and noted that the government is in the process of procuring 5G services, which will be made available to telecom operators once completed.
