Health Minister Pays GH¢26,000 of Treatment for Girl Battling Rare Disease

The family of a young girl battling a rare autoimmune condition known as dermatomyositis has received a lifeline, thanks to the intervention of Ghana’s Minister for Health, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The Minister has donated GH¢26,000 to cover the cost of her treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The girl, identified as Wumpaha Aisha, had been undergoing treatment at TTH when her case came to the attention of the Health Minister during a recent unannounced visit to the facility.

The visit came on the heels of a series of negative media reports surrounding operations at the hospital.

Moved by the condition of the young patient and the financial distress of her family, Minister Akandoh made a personal commitment to ensure she received the necessary care.

His donation has enabled the hospital to proceed with comprehensive treatment for Aisha, giving the family renewed hope.

The management of Tamale Teaching Hospital and the family of Aisha have expressed profound gratitude to the Minister for the timely intervention.

Dermatomyositis is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition that causes muscle weakness and skin rashes. It requires prompt and often prolonged medical treatment, which can be financially overwhelming for many families.
