Jihadist Preacher Cleared to Continue Propagating Hardline Islam
Sheikh Saeed Abdul Rauf, the radical Islamic preacher who was recently banned from preaching in the Dagbon Kingdom, has been cleared to resume his religious activities.
The reversal of the ban follows the intervention of prominent individuals, traditional leaders, and leadership of the Hardline Anbariya Sunni Community.
They reportedly appealed to the Gbewaa Palace to lift the restriction imposed on the cleric whose Hardline preachings does not even spare his fellow Sunnis.
Reports also claimed the decision to ban Sheikh Abdul Rauf was not sanctioned by the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, who was allegedly unaware of the action taken in his name.
Following this revelation, the preacher’s right to propagate his version of Islam that has constantly divided opinions and brought various sects on the brink of conflict has been restored.
Reacting to the development, Sheikh Saeed Abdul Rauf expressed gratitude to his supporters and the mediators for their intervention. He announced that he would resume his preaching this Saturday at his mosque in Nyanshegu.
“Asibri dali ti ni luhi bugum,” the Sudan-trained preacher said in the Dagbanli language.
Sheikh Abdul Rauf who often mount the pulpit in military attire is on record to have urged his followers to buy guns in readiness to fight non-sunni Muslims.
He is also reported to have insulted and called his followers cowards for their hesitation in attacking respected Sunni scholar and founder of the Nuria Islamic Institute.
He has radicalised his followers, instilling in them “Us versus them” mentality and constantly urging them to die for their faith, saying doing so will guarantee them bliss in Heaven.
Known for his uncompromising stance on religious matters, the controversial preacher had earlier been had earlier been banned for making disparaging comments about the Yaa Naa and defying traditional authority.
