Man, 27, Kills Girlfriend After Dispute Over Smoking Habit

A 27-year-old man, identified only as Sylvester, is on the run after allegedly killing his girlfriend, Abena, at Obuase Abompe in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.
According to local sources, the incident occurred after Abena reportedly threatened to end the relationship if Sylvester did not quit his excessive marijuana smoking.
She was said to be fed up with inhaling the smoke, which she claimed was affecting her health.
Despite promising to stop, Sylvester allegedly asked Abena for money to purchase what he described as his “last roll” of marijuana. She refused.
He later approached a friend, a barber in the community, also seeking money for drugs, but the friend declined and instead advised him to learn the barbering trade to earn a living and support his habit if he insisted on smoking.
Later that night, at about 10 p.m., Abena was discovered dead in Sylvester’s room.
Some neighbours reported hearing three gunshots from the direction of the suspect’s house around the time of the incident.
By the time the community rushed to the scene, Sylvester had fled. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect and urged residents to assist with credible information that could lead to his arrest.
Authorities are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Abena’s body has been conveyed to the morgue as investigations continue.
