American Charity Donates Assorted Items, Bicycles to Moglaa Community

An American-based charity organisation, Free Inspiration Reaching Everybody (FIRE), on Monday, December 8, donated assorted items to residents of Moglaa in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region.

The donation, made up of hundreds of pairs of shoes, jerseys, and bicycles, forms part of FIRE’s Hundred Bicycle Project for Rural Ghana. The items were handed over to the chief and elders of Moglaa for onward distribution to schoolchildren and vulnerable members of the community.

Founder of FIRE, Philadelphia-based Emile Acolatse, said the gesture was aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of residents while promoting education among young people. He noted that the bicycles are expected to ease transportation challenges for both farmers and students.

“As part of our One Hundred Bicycles Project, we intend to support more communities like Moglaa. We believe these bicycles will help farmers access their farms with ease and also support students in commuting to school,” Mr. Acolatse said.

Leading the delegation to Moglaa was businessman and President of the AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Federation (AfYEF), Prince Siita Sofo Hissan. He announced plans to invest in the community, revealing that his organisation has acquired 30 acres of land within the Moglaa enclave to establish a shea butter processing factory.

According to him, the project will create jobs for the youth and provide economic empowerment for women, as the factory will purchase shea nuts directly from them for processing.

Responding on behalf of the chief, the Gushee Naa commended FIRE for the gesture and assured the team of the chiefs’ and people’s full support. He also pledged the community’s readiness to safeguard all investments.

As a symbol of appreciation, the delegation received two live guinea fowls and tubers of yam from the community. A mini durbar was also held in honour of the travelling FIRE team.
