Two Ghanaian soldiers serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon have been critically injured, while another has been left traumatized after their position came under missile attack amid escalating hostilities in the region.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on March 6, 2026, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in Southern Lebanon, operating under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was struck by two missiles between 5:45 p.m. and 5:52 p.m. local time.
The attack occurred as a result of the ongoing exchanges between the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon.
The Ghana Armed Forces said two soldiers sustained critical injuries in the strike, while another soldier was traumatized by the incident.
The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported to be in stable condition. Arrangements are also underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further medical care.
The attack also caused significant damage to the Ghanaian contingent’s facilities, with the Officers’ Mess reportedly hit and completely burnt down.
IDespite the incident, the Ghana Armed Forces has assured the Ghanaian public that troops in the area remain safe and are currently sheltering in underground bunkers as a precautionary measure amid the fragile security situation.
