UDS Graduate School Dean Denies Vice-Chancellor Candidacy Claims, Threatens Legal Action

The Dean of the Graduate School at the University for Development Studies, Professor Paul Nkegbe, has denied claims circulating in sections of the media that he is a likely candidate in an ongoing process to appoint a Vice-Chancellor for the institution.

In a rejoinder and disclaimer, Prof. Nkegbe described the reports as “entirely false, baseless, and a fabrication,” rejecting assertions that his ethnic background has become a stumbling block in the alleged appointment process.

The statement follows widespread circulation of a media report and an accompanying flyer suggesting that Prof. Nkegbe was being considered for the Vice-Chancellor position but faced opposition from a group on the grounds that he is “not a native.” The report further alleged that disruptions at a University Council meeting were linked to these claims.

Prof. Nkegbe categorically dismissed the allegations, stating that they were a “reckless distortion of facts” and either the result of gross irresponsibility or deliberate mischief. He also raised concerns about the unauthorized use of his name and image in connection with the claims, describing it as deeply troubling and injurious to his reputation.

He has therefore demanded the immediate retraction of the publication and deletion of all related content, including the flyer bearing his image. Additionally, he called for a public apology to be issued with the same prominence as the original publication, clearly acknowledging the falsehood of the claims.

The Dean warned that failure to comply with these demands would leave him with “no option but to pursue legal action” to protect his name, reputation, and personal security.

Prof. Nkegbe further dissociated himself from the said report and any events described in it, urging the public to disregard the claims and treat the publication with contempt.
