NPP Directs Aspirants to Halt Premature Parliamentary Campaigns

The New Patriotic Party in the Northern Region has directed individuals, groups and campaign teams seeking to advance parliamentary ambitions in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament to immediately halt their activities.

In a directive, the Regional Executive Committee expressed concern over the growing activities of prospective parliamentary aspirants and warned against organising, sponsoring, promoting or participating in campaigns before the official opening of nominations.

The directive, signed by the Regional Secretary, Dr. Abdul Rahaman Karim Kpala, stated that only duly constituted Regional and Constituency Executive Committees acting within their legitimate mandate may undertake such activities.

The party emphasised that no individual or group may commence a parliamentary campaign before nominations are officially opened, adding that prospective aspirants remain free to contest when the process formally begins, subject to the party’s constitution, rules and regulations.

The NPP Northern Regional Secretariat further warned that premature campaigning, or activities intended to undermine sitting MPs or create factionalism, division and disorder within the party, would be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and could attract sanctions.

All Constituency Executives have consequently been directed to ensure strict and immediate compliance with the directive and report any violations to the Northern Regional Secretariat for appropriate action.

The directive takes immediate effect from September 14, 2026.
