CLOGSAG Declares Indefinite Strike Over Assault of Member by Mayor of Tamale
Effective Monday[February 19], members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana in Tamale will lay down tools in protest of alleged assault of the Northern Regional Environmental Health Officer by the Mayor of Tamale.
Hon. Sule Salifu who is also NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Tamale Central allegedly slapped the officer named, Sulemana Yakubu Tikumah, following a disagreement at a recent meeting of Heads of Departments and Agencies at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in Tamale.
The MCE is alleged to have also followed his physical assault of the senior civil servant with verbal threats at the meeting which had the regional Minister, Hon. Shaani Alhassan Shaibu, in attendance.
Following the incident, the regional minister intervened and agreement was reached that the MCE will apologise in writing to the assaulted officer and settle all other damages that resulted from the manhandling.
Days after the incident, the Mayor has refused to do as was agreed and the leadership of CLOGSAG say Hon. Sule’s refusal to obey lawful advice show he has not regretted his action, hence the need for action.
“As the staff of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly are on the urge and feel insecured and threatened, it is advisable to stay away from work until a congenial atmosphere is created,” Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo said.
“In this regard, all CLOGSAG members in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly as well as the Northern Regional Coordinating Council are asked to stay home until further notice, Effective Monday, February 19, 2024,” the Secretary declared.
